What separates successful companies from those without success? How do some real estate professionals manage to overcome challenges while others seem to constantly struggle? What is the secret to prosperity?
One word: Why
…people like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why. It was their natural ability to start with why that enabled them to inspire those around them and to achieve remarkable things. – Simon Sinek, Start with Why
How do we apply this to real estate professionals? Start with what you do know. You know what: more transactions. You might even know how: having a plan and executing it with precision. But until you know the WHY, you’re missing a keep component.
Getting to your own why is important, but may not come easily.
Ask yourself this question: if you made enough money to live well, have your expenses easily covered, without want or need, why would you continue a career in real estate? When challenges arise, why don’t you quit?
Once you know your why, work on a mission statement. Here are some examples to help get you started:
- I am a good person doing good things for other good people.
- I help people find the space they need to help the transition in their lives.
- I assist families with defining their vision of the perfect home.
- I’m a matchmaker. I match people’s needs with the right home.
- My real estate career allows me to help people while also affording me the opportunity to make my family a priority.
When you find out your why, every choice you make can be held against that mission statement as a measuring stick. How does volunteering for the community garage sale help you achieve your mission? Does this marketing initiative align with your goals?
